Beavers Bicycle Shop — A Tarzana BMX Shop in the Bike-Shop Chapter

Beavers Bicycle Shop
Tarzana, California · West San Fernando Valley BMX scene
Some of the shops in this library get a full chapter — a founder, a team, a house frame, a closing date. Beavers doesn't get that treatment here, and we're not going to pretend otherwise. What we have is a name on a list, and a name on a list is still worth writing down, because that's how a shop like this survives at all: somebody remembers it and says so.
Where the name comes from
Bill Ryan names Beavers directly in Legend Bike Co.'s own chapter on the sport's shop network, The Bike Shops That Made BMX. That page lists Beavers Bikes in Tarzana in the same breath as Dad's Bike Barn and Baron's Bikes — the thousands of neighborhood counters that, in Bill's words, mattered just as much as the famous ones, because without them there was nowhere for a kid to buy the part that kept him racing.
The name also turns up outside Legend Bike Co. A BMX Society community forum thread on old bike-shop stickers and bike licenses references a reproduction Beavers Bicycles decal, made by a collector recreating stickers from shops he bought parts at as a kid. The thread doesn't attach a city, a date, or an owner's name to the sticker — it's a nostalgia post, not a business record — but it does independently put the Beavers name in circulation among BMX collectors who lived through the era, which lines up with a shop real enough to leave a mark on somebody's memory and their bike frame.
What we don't know
This is a short entry because the record is short. We could not confirm the shop's founding year, closing year, owner's name, exact address, or whether it sponsored a BMX team or specific riders. oldschoolmags.com's magazine archive and bmxsociety.com's broader forum index were both checked directly and returned no dedicated Beavers coverage beyond the sticker-thread mention above. If you rode for Beavers, worked the counter, or have a photo of the storefront, Legend Bike Co. wants to hear from you — a correct short entry beats a confident guess, and we'd rather grow this page with your memory than pad it with ours.
Where Beavers fits in the bigger story
Beavers belongs to the same pattern as every shop in The Bike Shops That Made BMX: a counter in a neighborhood, parts on the wall, a kid who needed a part before Saturday's motos. Some of those shops became brands. Most just kept the sport running one customer at a time. Beavers is filed here as the second kind — not lesser for it, just less documented.
