A career built on both sides of the sport
Most people who spend a career in BMX pick a lane — racing or freestyle. Degollado's résumé runs through both, and that dual background is the thing every source on him leads with. He raced before moving into the industry, and the documented record doesn't specify sanctioning body or results. According to Bill Ryan, firsthand, 2026, Degollado raced for Haro and rode Supercross BMX components at the time — but by the time he landed at Haro Bikes as team manager, he was running Haro's racing program and its freestyle program at the same time, a combination BMXNews.org has called unusual even for a brand with as deep a history in both disciplines as Haro.
From Haro, Degollado moved into the tire side of the business — brand manager for Kenda Tires, then for Vee Tire Co., where he was still the public voice for the brand's BMX line as late as October 2013, when Vee Tire Co. named Triton Imports its exclusive UK distributor. He later co-founded his own tire brand, Driven, before shifting back to the sanctioning-body side of the sport. Bill Ryan, firsthand, 2026, adds more color to that stretch: after leaving Haro, Degollado worked briefly for Supercross BMX, then moved through roles at Alienation, FOX, and No Fear. Documented sources don't place those stops on the timeline, so their exact order relative to Kenda, Vee Tire Co., and Driven isn't nailed down — the full chronology here is approximate.
Building USA BMX's freestyle program
USA BMX brought Degollado on to head its freestyle effort out of the organization's Gilbert, Arizona offices, a role documented as BMX Freestyle Program Manager. Freestyle BMX's addition to the Olympic program — it debuted at the Tokyo 2020 Games — put real weight behind that hire. In the run-up to Tokyo, USA Cycling brought Degollado on as BMX Programs Manager, working directly under Jamie Staff, who had been running USA Cycling's BMX program.
Where he is now
USA BMX's current staff page lists Tony Degollado as Track Coordinator, part of the organization's Track Operations group, a role he's held since 2023.
Degollado and Legend Bike Co founder Bill Ryan have stayed close friends for more than 40 years, a friendship that goes back to Degollado's racing days (Bill Ryan, firsthand, 2026).
Why Degollado matters to BMX
He's not a contest-record name — the value here is different. Degollado is one of a small number of people who have run both the racing and freestyle sides of a major BMX brand, then carried that dual fluency into product (Kenda, Vee, Driven) and into the sport's national governing structure (USA BMX, USA Cycling) during the exact stretch when freestyle was fighting for — and won — Olympic recognition. That's a builder's career, not a rider's, and it's the kind of behind-the-scenes work that keeps BMX's business side functioning.
